  
Part of the CMA Contemporary collection, this poster reproduces the painting of a restful scene on a hot summer day in Nyack, NY by the artist, Fairfield Porter (1907-1975) Porter was inspired to sketch the original composition for this painting as he watched his wife and her friend read and paint underneath a tree. The following winter Porter made a small painting from the sketch, but this large canvas only evolved after twelve years.
